Code of conduct
necROmantic code of conduct
This server is a private, 18+ space built around text roleplay. General chat and roleplay interaction are a central part of the community and earn benefits inside the server. That focus does not remove the limits: how people get along, personal safety and consent all remain subject to this code of conduct.
The essentials, in five lines
Behind every character there is a person. What happens to your character is fiction; what you say to the person playing them is not.
A "stop" is respected instantly, without argument. Nobody is obliged to roleplay with you and nobody owes you an explanation.
No racism, sexism, homophobia, harassment or threats. Dressing it up as roleplay or as a joke makes it worse, not excusable.
Adult roleplay requires prior, revocable consent from everyone involved. Always.
We judge the effect, not the intention you claim afterwards. Looking for the loophole that lets you cause harm without breaking the letter is already a breach.
What follows is the full text. If you have a specific question, it is answered down there; if you just want to know how to behave, these five are enough.
1. General principle
People come before characters
Behind every character there is a real person. What happens to your character is fiction; what you say to the person playing them is not.
Always keep the character separate from the person: enmity, resentment or defeat inside the story do not carry over to how you treat each other out of character, or the other way round.
Treat everyone with respect, even when there is conflict, rivalry or tension inside the game.
Good faith is assumed. Faced with a misunderstanding, the expected thing is to clear it up calmly before escalating: most conflicts are solved by talking.
How these rules are read
They are interpreted by their spirit, not only by their letter. Looking for the technical loophole that lets you cause harm without literally breaking a rule is, in itself, a breach.
Any behaviour that seriously damages how people get along here may be moderated even if it is not described in a specific rule.
Context, repetition, the real impact on other people and the cooperation of whoever is involved are always taken into account.
Not knowing a rule does not excuse breaking it. If you are unsure whether something is allowed, ask before doing it.
When something goes wrong
Do not take justice into your own hands. If somebody breaks the rules, tell the administration rather than responding in kind, organising reprisals or campaigning publicly against that person.
Instructions from the team are respected there and then. If you disagree, you can discuss it afterwards through the available channels, but not ignore it or debate it in public during the intervention.
This code applies to every space in the community: the game, general chat, whispers, party or guild channels, forums, Discord and any external space linked to the server.
2. Out of character and public spaces
A public conversation that is not roleplay is still a real conversation between real people, and it will be moderated as such.
In non-roleplay public chat, general channels or out-of-character interaction, insults, harassment, racism, homophobia and any behaviour contrary to these rules will be sanctioned.
Trying to pass off clearly harmful out-of-character behaviour as a joke, irony or provocation does not remove the breach.
Insults aimed at another person and falsely dressed up as roleplay will be treated as an abuse of the rules: using fiction as an alibi to attack somebody real is not roleplay, and it will be dealt with more harshly than the same insult delivered openly.
Nobody is obliged to roleplay with you. If somebody declines a scene, you cannot insist, pressure or force them, and they do not have to justify themselves or give you any excuse: assume they may have other commitments. We are after a quiet life here.
In general chat, priority goes to people who are roleplaying: they are using that map and that particular area to set their scene. If you want to chat in general, it is better that you move to another area or another map. Ignoring this rule can mean a 30-minute mute, made worse if on top of it you treat badly the people who were trying to develop their roleplay.
3. Harassment and discriminatory speech
What is not tolerated
Racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist or degrading expressions based on origin, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or disability, when used against real people or in non-consented contexts.
They count even when not aimed at anybody in particular: as a verbal tic, as a joke or as decoration in public spaces that are not roleplay, they are prohibited too.
Harassment, sustained hounding, personal persecution and attempts to isolate somebody from the community.
Threats, wishing real harm on somebody and incitement to self-harm. These can mean immediate expulsion without prior warning.
"Stop" and unwanted contact
Anyone can ask for an interaction to stop or for a subject to be dropped. That request is respected instantly and without argument: insisting after a "stop" is harassment.
If somebody asks you not to write to them, stop. Following them across maps, whispers or channels, or switching character or account to contact them again, is harassment.
Sexual innuendo or content aimed at a real person without their express consent is not allowed, nor is pressuring anybody to take part in sexual or extreme scenes. The server being 18+ is no substitute for each person's consent.
Aggravating factors, and defences that do not work
When a situation stops being a roleplay conflict and starts causing real distress, pressure or intimidation outside the game, it is treated as a real problem and not as fiction.
Group harassment is especially serious: joining in the mockery or the collective pile-on makes the sanction worse even if your part looks minor.
Taking reprisals against whoever reports, or against whoever witnesses and cooperates, is sanctioned separately and more harshly than the original behaviour.
"It was my character", "it is their fault for playing along" or "I did not think it would affect them" are not valid defences: what is judged is the real effect on the person, not the intention you claim afterwards.
If you suffer or witness any of this, keep screenshots and tell us. Reporting in good faith is never sanctioned, even if in the end no breach is found.
The server does not log conversations —not general chat, not whispers, not party, not guild— so the administration cannot recover them afterwards. Your screenshots are the only evidence that will exist: save them at the time. See "Conversations inside the game", in the privacy policy.
4. Age of majority
Why 18+ if the game is for teenagers
Ragnarok Online is rated ESRB "Teen", that is, suitable from age 13. The game itself is not the reason for our limit.
This server is 18+ because of the community, not because of the content. It is not an erotic roleplay server or anything like it, and anyone coming here looking for that has the wrong place.
The reason is simple: we are a small group of adults who talk the way adults talk. In an ordinary conversation real-life subjects come up —relationships, work, money, alcohol, loss, mental health, sex— and they do not come up because anybody brings them up on purpose: they just come up, and they already have.
When that happens, there cannot be a minor in the middle of it. Not for what they would hear, not for what they might be asked without anyone knowing, and not for the position it would put every adult in the room in.
That is why the limit is not up for negotiation and does not depend on how mature anybody is: it is a question of who can be in the room.
You declare it yourself on the way in
necROmantic is an 18+ server. When you create the account you expressly declare that you are 18 years of age or older. It is not an assumption by the server: it is a statement of yours, and whoever makes it answers for it.
If that declaration is false, access is closed as soon as it is detected, without prior warning and without discussion.
If you think somebody is a minor
Tell the administration immediately. It is not telling tales: it is protecting that person and the community. An 18+ server with a minor inside is a serious problem for everyone, starting with the minor.
Tell that person too, calmly and without humiliating them: this place is not for them and they should leave. It does not have to be a public accusation or an interrogation.
Do not continue any adult-content interaction with somebody you suspect is a minor, however much they insist they are not. When in doubt, you stop and you report it.
Reasonable suspicion is enough to report. You do not have to prove it or investigate on your own: that is the administration's job.
Staying quiet while knowing there is a minor inside is also a breach, and a serious one.
Adopted characters and Baby classes
The game allows you to adopt characters and play Baby classes. That is allowed and changes nothing of the above: whoever is at the keyboard still has to be of age. You adopt a character, never a person.
An adopted or Baby-class character is excluded from any 18+ roleplay, without exception and even if their player is an adult and consents. A character with a child's appearance is not used in adult-content scenes: not sexual ones, and not explicit violence against them.
Anyone playing such a character cannot use it as an alibi to make anybody uncomfortable, nor for "in character" innuendo, nor to put themselves in situations that would be unacceptable outside the game.
If somebody proposes an 18+ scene with an adopted or Baby character, tell the administration. It does not matter who proposes it or how old they are.
Adult content and consent
Content may include mature themes typical of an adult MMORPG and roleplay community, always within this code of conduct.
Although harassment, insults and racist, homophobic or equivalent content are prohibited as real behaviour, portraying them within roleplay is not prohibited in itself when it is clearly fictional, framed as roleplay, and everyone involved has given real consent.
That consent must be prior, informed and revocable. If one of the people involved stops accepting it, the situation is no longer covered as consented roleplay.
Conversely, a public conversation that is not roleplay and contains racist, homophobic or otherwise rule-breaking messages will be punished, even if somebody tries to present it as roleplay afterwards.
5. Economy, automation and undue advantages
There is no right whatsoever to sell items, zeny, accounts, characters or other game goods in exchange for real money or for anything else outside the server.
Automation: the server's yes, outside tools no
What is prohibited is automation by third-party applications: external bots, macros, auto-clicker programs, keyboard or mouse scripts, modified clients and any tool outside the server used to play, farm, trade or simulate activity.
necROmantic has its own automation system, built into the server and regulated: its assisted-play and companion features are allowed and are the only valid way to automate.
That in-house system has usage time limits per day and per account. Using it within those limits is legitimate; trying to extend, dodge or fake them by external means is a breach again.
Manipulating, patching or interfering with the in-house automation system is not allowed, nor is combining it with external tools to go beyond what the server permits.
Cheating, technical abuse, duplication, deliberate exploitation of bugs or any other means of obtaining an illegitimate advantage are likewise not allowed.
External buying and selling, the use of third-party automation and technical abuse may lead to an immediate severe sanction.
6. One account per person
Each person may have a single account. Creating additional accounts for yourself is not allowed, not under different names, not "to try another class", and not to reserve names.
Gifts, raffles, lotteries and any other giveaway are handed out once per account and per IP address. Collecting a giveaway from a connection that has already collected it that day is not possible.
The server checks the IP automatically at the moment of delivery and keeps a record. This is not a suspicion or an accusation: it is the same criterion for everybody.
If you share a connection, tell us
If two or more different people play from the same connection -partners, siblings, flatmates, family- tell the Staff. The case is reviewed and an exception is recorded for your accounts, and from then on each one can receive its gifts normally.
Asking for that exception is free and carries no penalty at all. The only thing that is sanctioned is the opposite: trying to collect twice while keeping quiet that both accounts belong to the same person.
Creating a second account to duplicate gifts, raffles or advantages is considered fraud and can result in losing what was obtained and in sanctions on every account involved.
Sharing your account with somebody else, or using somebody else's, is not allowed either: the account is personal and non-transferable.
7. Frequently sanctioned behaviour
Repeated personal insults, defamation or public humiliation aimed at a specific person.
Impersonation, doxxing, disclosure of private information, out-of-character pressure or emotional blackmail.
Systematically sabotaging roleplay scenes or breaking dynamics agreed between other people.
Forcing supposedly roleplay situations without clear consent from everyone involved.
Posting or handing out invitation codes in the open, or inviting people you do not know. See the next section.
8. Invitations: who you bring, and how
This server is private and small, and it holds together because everyone who joins has been introduced by somebody. An invitation is not an access coupon: it is vouching for another person.
Only invite people you genuinely know outside the server. Hand them the code in person or privately, and stay with them at the beginning.
Do not publish, transfer or trade codes on websites, forums, social networks, lists, channels or openly accessible servers.
Inviting strangers to rack up referrals is considered cheating, not merely bad manners: it artificially inflates your player level, which is an in-game advantage.
The account is created by whoever is going to play it. Registering your invitee's account yourself and handing it over afterwards is not acceptable, nor is filling in their form "to help them". That person must do it, with their own email and their own password. An account created by the inviter and handed over later is a fraudulent invitation, even if a real person ends up playing it.
Every sign-up is recorded with the address it was made from, and cross-checked against the accounts that have already come through that same address. Sharing a home or a connection is not a breach and is not sanctioned on its own: what is pursued is manufacturing invitees who do not exist as separate people.
Consequence: immediate loss of every pending invitation, without prior warning. Depending on the case, the measures in the next section may be added.
When an invitee counts
An invitee does not count for registering: they count because they play. Filling a stamp —fifteen minutes of play without idling on a given day— at least once every fourteen days is enough. The day they stop showing up they stop counting, and their inviter's level goes down on its own.
There is one permanent exception: whoever reaches level 90 or rebirths counts forever, whether they play or not. Delete that character and they are back under the general rule.
Whoever strings together seven consecutive days of streak is a Gold referral and is worth double.
Three generations count: your invitees and your invitees' invitees are worth one each, and the generation below them a third. Someone in the middle no longer counting does not invalidate those below: they keep adding up at their own tier.
The bonus they give each other
Every player may pick one bonus —either a percentage or an autocast, never both— which their direct invitees receive. Picking is voluntary and costs nothing: whoever picks nothing gives nothing.
There are sixteen to choose from: eight +1% percentages, two natural-regeneration ones at +2%, two autocasts —on attack and on being hit—, herbs or potions on kill, turning into a monster for a while, and extra zeny. For the autocasts, the inviter also picks the spell level, from 1 to 10: higher hits harder but fires once for every fifty times at level 10 compared to level 1.
A streak improves the gift by 50%. Whoever receives it and is on a seven-day streak gets more chance, more percentage, more duration or more zeny, depending on the bonus. What counts is the receiver's streak, not the giver's.
It can be changed at any time, but once picked you cannot leave your invitees with none. The rule only runs one way.
The inviter picks the bonus, including which spell goes off if they choose an autocast. Whoever receives it only decides whether to use it, with a switch in their account panel.
Changes take effect on the receiver's next login, not mid-session.
9. The server Discord
What it is for, and what it is not
The Discord exists for two things: sorting problems out —questions, incidents, notices, reports— and meeting other people to arrange something, put a party together or coordinate something inside the game.
It is not a place for roleplay. Roleplay happens inside the game, which is where it makes sense and where the people taking part can see it. The only exception is a channel that expressly says it allows it.
And never, in any channel, for 18+ content. No scenes, no images, no sexually charged conversations. There is no possible exception here: even though the community is made up of adults, Discord has its own rules and a channel without an age restriction cannot host that content.
If somebody takes you there in a Discord DM, the correct response is to cut it off and report it.
The same rules, no shortcuts
This code of conduct applies on the Discord exactly as it does inside the game. Being easier to get into does not make it a free-for-all.
A sanction counts in both places. Anyone who earns an expulsion from the game has it on the Discord too, and the other way round.
Invitation codes are not handed out there in open channels either: section 8 applies just the same.
What the administration cannot see
Private messages between users on Discord are outside moderation: nobody from the administration sees them or can recover them.
If something happens there, the only way anything can be done is for you to report it with screenshots. It is the same criterion as inside the game.
Discord is a third-party service with its own terms and its own data policy. Whatever happens on their platform is governed by those as well, and that is outside our control.
10. Disciplinary measures
Measures may include a warning, a temporary mute, suspension, account ban, expulsion from the server or loss of access to community spaces. The severity will depend on the case, on the harm caused and on repeat offences, and it may escalate immediately if the behaviour is especially serious.
